ThyssenKrupp Waupaca Inc.’s (TKW's) Plant 1, Waupaca, Wis., recently was awarded the Wisconsin Governor’s Award for Excellence in Environmental Performance.
The award was presented to three companies in the state and recognizes Wisconsin businesses and institutions for their leadership in environmental performance. Award finalists were selected based on reduction of waste toxicity, economic performance, transferability of the processes for use by others, and commitment by the applicant to helping other industries, organizations or institutions.
Plant 1 was recognized by the state for its closed loop heat recovery system. The system provides approximately 70% of the plant heating requirements for a typical winter, as well as the hot water needs of the facility.
