Expanding metalcasting conglomerate Diversified Machine Inc. (DMI), Wixom, Mich., has confirmed it purchased the Columbus, Ga., metalcasting facility previously operated by now bankrupt Intermet Corp., Fort Worth, Texas.
Steve Lake, former head of Intermet’s ferrous group, recently verified the purchase in an email message. Lake has been made president of DMI Columbus LLC, Columbus, Ga.
According to various news reports, Intermet has sold the majority of its metalcasting plants since filing for bankruptcy protection more than a year ago. The sales could not be confirmed by Intermet.
DMI, which has purchased three metalcasting facilities in the past two years, now operates plants in Bristol, Ind.; Howell, Montague and Wixom, Mich.; and Milwaukee. According to its website, the company produces aluminum automotive castings for powertrain and chassis applications in a variety of processes.
Prior to its systematic divesture over the past year, Intermet operated metalcasting facilities in Jackson, Tenn., New Hope, Minn., Monroe City, Mo., Palmyra, Mo., Lynchburg, Va., Hibbing, Minn., Radford, Va., and Stevensville Mich., in addition to Columbus.
