Washburn Iron Works Installs Sand Recycler Print E-mail

Released on September 8, 2008

Ferrous green sand metalcaster Washburn Iron Works, Washburn, Wis., installed and started up a new sand and clay recycling system in August.

The company, which pours gray and ductile iron castings from ounces to 250 lbs., purchased the system from Furness-Newburge Inc., Versailles, Ky., which offers environmental compliance strategies and equipment. According to the supplier, the recycler is a small acoustic system that can expand to recycle waste green sand back into core and molding sand, as well as clay back into the green sand system.

The 42-employee Washburn facility makes castings for a variety of industries, including hydraulics, fluid handling, marine, railroad, food processing, municipal, exhaust and ventilation, and agricultural and recreational equipment.
