Steelmaking supplier and metalcaster Whemco Inc., Pittsburgh, has agreed to purchase 100% of the assets of United Foundries Inc., Canton, Ohio, a cast roll manufacturer.

Whemco supplies a variety of equipment to the steelmaking industry, including rolls, which can be manufactured in the metalcasting and forging processes. The company will enhance its casting capabilities with the purchase of United, which casts rolls for the ferrous, nonferrous, rubber and plastic industries. The purchase is scheduled to close on Sept. 30.

“The addition of the United assets and products to Whemco’s portfolio would not only enhance our ability to serve our existing customers, but would allow us to enter new markets,” said Charles Novelli, president and CEO of Whemco.
 
In addition to cast and forged work, Whemco produces back up rolls used in the manufacture of both flat and long steel products, slag pots and coiler drums.

“Whemco would continue our tradition of supplying quality rolls to our customers,” said Ron Martin, president of United.
