Dotson Iron Castings, Mankato, Minn., recently purchased two new automatic pouring units, increasing its number of the units to three.
In early 2006, Dotson installed its first automated pouring unit, a “walk away” system that contributed to the company being named the MODERN CASTING Metalcaster of the Year.
The two new units, purchased from Roberts Sinto Corp., Lansing, Mich., have made the ferrous green sand job shop a 100% automatic pouring operation. According to Dotson representatives, the initial unit improved the facility’s yield by nearly 5%.
“We can pour mold-to-mold within 0.5-0.75 lbs. (227-340 g), which eliminates almost all over and under pours,” Dotson President Dennis Dotson said shortly after the company purchased the first automatic pouring unit.
