Minnesota Ferrous Shop Installs Matchplate Molder Print E-mail

Released on November 14, 2007

Northern Iron and Machine, St. Paul, Minn., recently installed a Disa Match 130 molding machine and Summit Foundry Systems mold handler.

The new matchplate molding line, which the company expects will increase its molding department capacity by 25-35%, will replace three outdated lines and reduce manpower while increasing productivity. According to company executives, the new machine will provide a 30-35% cost reduction and maintain Northern’s existing level of productivity.

Northern, a ductile and gray iron job shop, currently ships more than 4,500 tons of castings per year to the construction, off-highway, agricultural and railroad industries. The company also provides finish-machined parts, painting and assembly of castings in its machine shop.
